What the deal with the rear Avant cargo net pictured here?

Let's use something familiar. Take a case of beer. Cardboard on carpet has very little friction. It's easy to get that to start sliding around under an elastic net. Cut hard to the left, and quickly to the right, and you're gonna hear that thing sliding around in the trunk with your net. The avant net can be set up to hold it in place.

I prefer the open diffs for street and mostly the street with snow and ice.
So open all round is nice - but fully locked when needed combined with traction control as well is just killer. I also have wired in a switch on the dash killing the ABS and traction control if I desire.
