What direction are the slots supposed to go on slotted rotors? Pics would be very useful, thanks

Well they can point at the rear anyway you put them =P but is that on top or bottom of the rotor.

Default Hmm... on that note. Does the direction even matter?

The slots are there to do two things, right?

1) heat things up to operating temp more quickly
2) prevent glazing

Is this about right? If that's the case, would they work no matter which direction they are pointed?

Default its an ambidextrous brake rotor...

no....
release gasses that get stuck between your pad and the rotor.
cool the rotor down further.
prevent glazing

Default Forgot about gas release... but are you sure about cooling?

I've heard the slots actually heat things up more quickly. That's why you can get slotted *and* crossdrilled rotors. But maybe the people I talked to were smoking crack.

(Hmm... would smoking crack really affect your judgement on the function of car parts? I've always wondered this.)

Default when positioned correctly the vanes draw air away from the hub

and out away from the rotor. If they're positioned backwards the forward wheel motion will have the opposite effect, causing the rotor to heat up (BAD).

Default photo of correct orientation

Vanes point outwards towards the rear of the car, grooves towards the front of the car.
