I believe the exhaust is stainless steel and should not rust.

Default Been there, done that (more)

I have two A4's and have polished both stock tips. I start with a super fine sand paper (400 grade) and then use "Mothers" metal polish. It is a creamy white polishing compound. I'm very pleased with the results. By the way not rusting in over two years.
Plan on a good 15 to 30 minutes of work if you want a superior job. I feel the results are well worth the trouble.

Use Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish. Good stuff, great results.

You can clean them somewhat using 200/400/600 dry/wet sandpaper and a coat of metal polish. Obviously, it's better to do this before the corrosion gets too bad.

Default Sorry for the pre-coffee grumpiness, all the other advice so far is good...

I'm going out to the lot at lunch and work on mine. good luck. I may also use the polishing
wheel on my Dremmel tool and see how that works.<p>

Default I found my afternoon project (already have the sandpaper and the Mothers polish)

I was just walking up behind my Avant thinking, gawd it looks great - too bad the exhaust tips look like crap.
