What is the extra space under the CD changer on 99.5+'s?

It looks like that part of the bracket is waiting for something to be installed in it. I even noticed some extra wiring there next to the pre-wiring for the changer. Hmmm... what could those be. On MY2K's, is this where the Nav system mounts?
Really curious.

I asked my local dealer about adding the nav in my my2k a6. He said that it can only be installed when the car is being built. I'm not sure if the system requires somthing other than the cd-rom drive in the trunk, but if this is the only update needed, and the instrument display is programed to accept compands from the trunk, it shouldn't be that hard to upgrade.

When I was waiting my 00 A4, I would go my the dealers almost weekly just to see what was going on (and to not go crazy from the wait).
One day, my salesman told me that they had ordered an A6 4.2 for someone and it was supposed to have NAV. Once the car got a VIN, it was discovered that it didn't have the NAV. The salesman tried everything to figure out how to add NAV to the car, but it can't be added. The salesman had to take DOUBLE the cost of the NAV off the purchase price to keep the deal.
