Default What fluids need regular changing on a 1998 Audi A4?

I just bought one used and it came with no service manual. There is a container with this fluid in it on the driver side in the front (something about using mineral hydraulic fluid?) It is at the min mark. I don't have any idea of what fluid to put in. Please help!!!

Default Power steering fluid. Make sure you buy it from the dealer. It's like 18 bucks for a tiny bottle.

Also on ebay you can pick up cheap OEM car manuals.

But I would do syn. oil changes every 5k with oem filter or mobil 1 filter. Air filter every 30k with spark plugs. And pollen filter is 30k too.

And check your coolant level, you should never have to add.

And more importantly, what year audi? has your timing belt been changed? if not get it done with the water pump, belts, thermostat. Assorted seals if they need them. Altho some people recommend doing them while your in there, to save on labor.

I know I'm leaving some stuff out. Just off the top of my head.

Default Alternately, you can use Pentosin CHF 11s, availible at most Euro service shops...

is not a lot cheaper, but you get a bigger can :-)

This is the same stuff as what's in the car from the factory.

Default Brake fluid every 2 years and although Audi specifies it as 'life time' I'd look at changing the

transmission and rear differential oil about now.

Default Can all that be done by myself?

Sounds like a lot of stuff, and I've noticed there is not that much room to work under the hood of this thing. Thanks for the suggestion. I will definently look into it.

It's a mineral hydraulic fluid.

Top off with distilled H2O and you'll be all right.
