How do the valves operate in the 5valve system? I am concerned because of a recent post that states that it costs $700 for a timing belt change. If the timing belt (knock on wood) breaks what will happen to the engine?<br>Also does anyone have the Bentley manual for the A4 1.8T? Is it worth the money? I consider myself capable to work on my own car, but having a Bentley next to you seems to always help....

valves. I don't know if this engine is interference or not. If it's the interference type and the belt breaks then you have major engine damage due to the pistons and valves trying to occupy the same space at the same time. Generic recommendation is 4 years or 50K miles.
