What happens to our engines when timing belts snaps?

However, one thing to note, when a belt slips and the car is equipped with an auto transmission, the chances of the crank rotating greater than 180 degrees to do any damage to the valves is very little because the engine will just die - unless the owner selects the lower gear intentionally.
The cranking after the stall though can cause things to pop after.
