What kind of oil do you guys use for your 1.8T engines?

Very recently, I picked up a chipped 97 1.8T with KO4 upgrade. It has 82,000 miles right now and I'm about to change the oil tomorrow, but I still don't know what kind of oil to use.
And also, I've read a LOT of threads about AutoRX as I'm about to try them on my both audis (A6 2.7T Auto, and A4 1.8T Manual). But my question is... In order to use the AutoRX, I believe I have to use "regular" oil, but not synthetic, correct? hmm... Would I be able to switch back to synth afterwards?
Many thanks in advance!!

are the two most common I can think of that you can pick up in the store, easily... DO NOT RUN NON SYNTHETIC OIL IN THE 1.8T.
There is a sludge warning issue out there for this engine use only VW 502.00 specification oil. Check the back to make sure it meets this certification.
Also use only OEM oil filters, they updated the oil filter to also deal with the sludge problem.
You will need 4 qts.

but it very well could be. I do know those 2 oils I listed are..
Castrol is the OEM choice for Audi.
Personally I use Amsoil 5W40, which according to amsoil, exceeds 502.00. I've been using Amsoil for a while now, and my valve train pics speak for themselves in cleanliness after 100K. 0 sign of sludge

Personally I would buy a pack of 5 oil filters from Mike Kim at PureMS, have him throw in some crush washers. (check to see if you have a small or large oil drain plug)Then go to the local auto parts store and put a case of Castrol Syntec 5W 40, fully synthetic on special order for you.
I would also recommend the Amsoil.. but at north of 7/qt before shipping, it's not for the faint of heart.

You can use regular oil for the ARx treatments and switch back to synth without problems. Why would you pay shipping for oil when you can just go to a local Walmart/AutoZone/whatever and pick it up?

Capacity for the oversized filter is ~4.25 qts. I am now using what known around here as the "Big Kahuna" oil filter, the Wix 51333/Napa Gold 1333. Capacity for this one is ~4.5 qts.
For my AutoRx treatment, I have been using the Rotella 15w40 in the white jug. Yes it is dino oil, albeit as high quality one. Go to the "Bob's the oil guy" forum and read up there on AutoRx. Once I am done with the treatment, I will go back to a quality syn oil.

5w-40 from WalMart in the truck oil section. Prefered to use a dino for the short 2000 mi ARX run and rinse. Havoline. 10w-40 or 5w-30 or a blend of the two depending on how cold it is.
