Default Some one also said that there is some surge valve that

goes into the PCV valve, should I also replace either one of those while at it? The car has 47k on it, and I'm not sure when either have ever been replaced.

Default I didn't. Honestly, the reason I didn't was the lousy access to get to the thing.

my big hands wont fit underneath the intake manifold easily. I even took off the rubber intake tube from the manifold to give easier access below, but even with that, it would be difficult to get the plumbing out for the pCV valvle. So I just left it as it was.

We had "oil smell" stopping at a light coming into the cabin, so I suspected something was up with the pcv system in some way or another. I found the A6 guys were seeing some oil seepage from this suction thing being blocked, so since it's just so cheap, I figured I'd replace it.

No more CEL, no more oil smell. things are OK so far with the changes I made. I also used some thin BMW vacuum line and replaced all the thin stuff as the Audi stuff was literally falling apart.

Default "The Crack Pipe"

That is from the parts guy at the dealership I went to when I told him I need the "L" shaped pipe. He didn't even look up the part number and goes back to the parts bins and brings out the part.
