more oil to hold contaminants - better cooling - and of course more filtering

AutoZone carries the Bosch oversized replacement right?

Default originally the 1.8T only took 3.8 qts....

this is a really small amount of oil for any 1.8L engine and way too little for a turbo engine. this is one reason most people here change their oil at half the mileage recommended by Audi in the original owner's manual.

Default Is there? Unless the filter is equipped with anti-flow back flaps that will keep the oil in the

filter even overnight, I don't see benefits outweighing the circumstances.

Default Wait, I just recalled that B5 1.8T has the filter oriented such that it keeps oil...

So, yes, 1.8T benefits from the larger oil filter. This is what I do with the TT.

On my 12V (and 30V), I use and recommend a small one.
