What r the benefits of the oversized oil filter on our cars?

And besides I didnt say it was cost effective I said it was better!
For a stock car I still put them in, but I must admit I dont pinch many pennies on mechanical stuff. I dont have many unnecessary repairs either ;>}

I could have NASA re-engineer every part on my car to make it "better", if it is cost-effective or even effective at all is questionable. It should be noted that lower micron filtering does not appear to affect wear rates at all. Also, street cars infrequently have the failure mode decribed anyway. You probally are more willing to spend and "invest" in the stainless mesh filter than the next guy. I run on Champion Labs' $2 SUPERTECH filters or $3 Motorcraft. These will let my engine last 300k.

I learned my lessons the hard way and dont change them based on opinions. If you feel comfortable with a 2$ filter then by all means use one and smile. I cant afford it, and it has saved a very expensive engine once already. When an engine runs as far against the edge as mine does, chunks are the main concern, not wear.

that a regular filter would not "catch". You would be in a very small minority who use this filter and then...only a fraction of them will see a benefit.

and a flat stainless filter.
This is a very modified car, wear isnt a concern, but the filter I posted saved me from having to junk a block that has 5-7k in machine work mods just to the block. I spun a rod bearing before I got the dry sump on an extended hi speed corner. Every piece of that bearing was caught before it cycled thru the block. It saved me 10k$ at a minimum. If you were in my position you would feel the same about the better filters/screens. The dry sump was to prevent losing bearings on the track, and it has been superlative so far. I did put the filter I showed in my Passat wagon tho, and expect well filtered oil. The filter will fit a multitude of cars and all Audis and VW's. I am on my 10th VW and my 5th Audi.

15 Audis and 5 VWs. I can't even keep count. With 10 street Audis, I'm sure you can appreciate the not-so-megar task of just keeping them on the road for .25m miles. That's where my knowledge base lies. Tracked cars are indeed unique and I can't say I know much about their requirements. I bought a new RSX just to get out of the game for a while.
