Default Exactly thanks...

I was looking at the specs of the new 3.0 and was affraid it would be as $hitty as the old 12V it's derived from. My dad used to own a 12V and boy was that slow, he was therefore considering the 1.8T w/chip for is next one (2002), but I believe the new 3.0's got ±220lb-ft@3200 w/6-speed while 1.8T has ±208@2200 so 3.0 might do it.

Default Explain how the "old" v6 is ****ty?

Also explain how it's slow? I have no problems with my '96 2.8, maybe it's driver error on your dad's part?

OK it may ALSO be the fact that he had an automatic transmission (slowest transmission ever), but still, the engine has no low-end power, not enough torque, but I have to admit at high speed it still has enough power.
In general, I was EXTREMELY dissapointed with the 2.8Q/5-speed auto combination...it simply wasn't lively and responsive at all.

Default I have a '96 2.8 auto, and a '97 2.8 stick. The 5-speed is a MUCH faster animal.

The tranny really inhibits all the low end power. It's the main reason I got the '97.
