What are the symptoms of a poorly balanced wheel/tire?

I just noticed this weekend that when traveling at speeds over 65 mph, I get a slight vibration in the steering wheel. It is not there under 60, actually very smooth up to that speed. This is with my 2001.5 A4 with tires that are only 3 months old and seemed fine until today. Is this vibration a sign of a poor balance or something else?

get the wheels balanced. It'll cost you about $60 for all four wheels. Nine times out of 10 that's the problem. Very unlikely that it's a tire problem.

You probably lost a wheel weight along the way somewhere -- very common.
I just had all four of my tires spin balanced -- two were off by 2 oz, one was off by 1/2 oz. They charged $9/tire for mag/chrome wheels and $8/tire for steels. Out the door cost was still under $40. Not sure what the difference would be -- were they doing spin balancing on your $60 job?
