What tire pressure should my tires have??

I just got a tire guage, and when I checked my tires, they were at 31.5 psi. The max pressure for my Michelin Pilots states 44 psi. Should I increase the pressure to that level? I don't want them under inflated. Thanks.

Some people here recommend 38-39 but I really think that's too high and unneccesary.

44 is more appropriate. The smaller the internal volume of the tire, the more pressure. That's why that donut spare needs to be inflated to 60 psi. 225/45/17 tires state a max pressure of about 44 or 45, while my 225/40/18s have a max pressure of 51 psi. I would never recommend inflating to the max psi, by the way, necause there is a variace due to temperature.

I assume that pic. is from the notice in the door. That maybe why the dealer inflated to the levels they are now. Should I increase?
