Default What is the trick to getting the large retaining ring back on the compressor side of the T28?

I can't find a large enough pair of retaining ring pliers anywhere. Closest think I have is a pair of 11 inch needle nose pliers with a 45 degree tip. They work to grab it, but I can't get close to getting it in there. I'm about ready to get a hammer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Default I updated the pic in the original post. It is the ring that holds the comp. housing on...

Sorry for the poor pic.

I am heading over to my buddy's now to let him take a crack at it. My patience is gone.

Default I got mine from pep boys... They're huge and came with a whole bunch of tips.

I'd give them a try and if you don't like it they'll take it back.

Default ahh so I take it you finally got the new internal parts in..

did you take pictures of the re build? Journal bearing turbo's are hard to re build with great success.

Default Anything blurrier?

You need to compress the ring to install it?

I would use some wire in the holes to pull it together and snip the wire when it is in place.

unfortunately a set of LARGE snap-ring pliers is what you need.

We were able to get it with the pliers. Time to bolt it in.
