What is VVT and is there anyway to get it on a pre2001 engine?

Default VTECH-I allows for variance in overlap, duration, and lift. IIRC, Toyota beat them...

to it with the Celica GT-S.

Default The so called "Frankenstein" motors are less reliable.

They require completely switching out the head, most likely from the B16A. The GS-R/ITR have piston oilers which cool down the engine at high RPMs. VTEC is much less complicated than VVT because it only requires a solenoid for the cam switchover and to open the secondary intake runners. The VVT is infinitely variable and would need the computer to make thousands of adjustments every second.

Default I-VTEC is in the new RSX and Civic Si... A smarter version of the same technology they have been

using throughout the 90s.

Default VVT is something like...

Say for instance you have two valves per cylinder. On a VVT equiped car there would be 3 cam lobes for eack cylinder. About anything under 5500rpm the valves would rely on the two low lift lobes on the cam to determine a medium lift for the valves. Once it hits a certain rpm it the cam would be shifted so the valves could rely on the "third" lobe which would be of a higher lift to hold the intake and exhaust valve open just a tad bit longer.

Well, something like that.
