What would cause my car to go into limp mode?

What would cause my car to go into limp mode?
Lost the kick on the turbo yesterday...I still felt boost but it felt linear, no kick. Unhooked the battery and reset, now its back and running fine. what could cause this to happen?
Last thing I rmember was hitting the gas hard and shifting up to 3rd before this jackass in front of me forced me to let off at acceleration (he was burning his tired on his redneck truck, took off then turned sudenly into a drive way without signaling). Then after that my boost was gone (well not entirely, but it didnt have the kick)
