Default ok. honest feed back:

ive put in about 1400 into my car for performance mods in the 6 months ive owned it:

500 for chip.
800 for exhaust.
50 for filter.
and 50 for fenderliner.

and that gets me a 14.8 in the 1/4 mile.
to get a 14.8 in a 323 your going to have to do much much more. dont get me wrong, they look nice - but are going to be much slower, wont handle as good, and still more expensive. with the minimal mods i have right now im able to walk down new 330s and beat older style m3s till approx. 90mph.

Default 323 = cheapest BMW on the market

I'm being hippicritical, I'm currently driving the cheapest used A4 on the market....but that is going to change in about 10 months.

I know the 323 is a nice car....I'd just rather spend the $ to get into a 330 or even a 325, rather than settle.

Default With snow tires you will be OK. In snow the important things are stopping and turning. Quattro just

gets you going. So if you put good snow tires on you will be OK. I am an ex BMW owner and ran a few of them up to Tahoe many times.

Default A friend of mine had one and sold it because it was so bad in the winter.

But he was on the stock all-season tires. It would probably have been a little better (still no match for quattro) with true snow tires.

Default My point was, at a given $$$ point, I'd MUCH prefer a 323 to a Camaro.

But I'm more of a "roads with turns" kinda guy that a dragstrip queen.

Default Sounds like a fabulous price, friend bought a 323i sedan 6months ago for $34,000

Fully loaded though w/ everything except navigation. He loves it but wishes there was more power, though he appears to have more power than my 2001 1.8t. Very few mods available for the 323, majority of the mod market is for the e36 crowd currently. This may change. If a deal like that was around when I was getting my A4 I probably would have gone with it (depending on the options). In the winter you will want snow tires BTW. Good Luck!

Default Go for it!

You won't be able to get away with all of the stuff our Quattros get away with in the snow. But with good winter tires and some commin sense you can make it through the winter, and enjoy the beauty of the car for the other 9 months. Compared to driving and UGLY car for 12months just so you can show off in the snowy 3 months.
There are A LOT of future BMW owners on this board, so you are jut a little ahead from the rest of us!
Good price, Great car.....GO!!!!
