Default What's the deal with getting our flywheels resurfaced? I called South Bend and they told me...

that they were one of the only places in the US to have the right equip. to resurface the 1.8t's flywheel. They told me how they had to contact all kinds of abrasives manufacturers to get the right equip. Now, yesterday I call Spec and ordered a stage 2 clutch from them. They tell me almost exactly the same thing about how they are the only ones who can resurface the flywheel properly. I don't think anyone was lying or trying to lie but is it true that it is that hard to resurface the 1.8t's flywheel? Can I have someone around here do it without worrying?

Why not just put in a new flywheel? Stock one is pretty heavy.

Default That is funny, since I had my dbw flywheel resurfaced before either

of them even produced a Audi clutch back in 2001. Any shop that can resurface a flywheel can do the job.

Default I was at South Bend and have seen how they surface the flywheel....

because of the way the stock Audi flywheel is, you need a special bit to surface the flywheel.

Not just anyone can do it.
