Default What's the deal with platinum plugs for the 1.8T?

I have been reading the archives recently trying to decide which plugs to put into my 1998 A4 1.8T.
The dealer recommends & sells the NGK PFR6Q. But I see people here on AW saying NOT to use these particular plugs, and that I would be better off with copper plugs. (I wrote down the part#s but don't have them handy.)

Is it because of the turbo that people recommend copper over platinum? Or because of the higher boost (and therefore more heat) with a chip?

Thanks!

Default What's the deal with airline food?

those plugs are fine to use when stock (30-40k)or with a chip (20k).

coppers are good for 5k.

your choice.

either way, Advanced Auto seems to have the best prices locally.

Default Having use both type of plugs (currently using plats)

I'd say go for the coppers. Cheap enough to replace at every oil change.

Stick to platinum on stock or chipped K03.

Default just looking at this again for the first time in two years

not much current info in the FAQ. I tend to be a pessimist of life saving plugs for high dollars. I have a hard time understanding why the $5 Bosch copper plug wouldn't work as good as anything else for 10K to 15K.

Maybe there are some current threads with a good discussion and part#s I missed? The Parts Bin lists about 20 plugs for the 1.8T ranging from $5 each to $16 each.

Default Buy a set of Bosch F6DTC tri-plugs, best plugs you can buy for the 1.8t

Works great in A4's running just a chip to making 600+whp. Nice part is that you dont have to gap the plug.
