What's the deal with platinum plugs for the 1.8T?

I just swapped my OEM NGK's w/ the Bosch FR7DPP33...
They are a platinum plug listed as the OEM replacement for the 1.8T by Bosch. They are identical in design to the OEM NGK PFR6Q, and were around half of the price ($5.99 a plug from AutohausAZ).
