Re: What's the difference between "Quattro" and "4Motion"?
4Motion on the passat is really just quattro rebadged.
Although, quattro on the TT is really 4Motion(which is Haldex based). quattro is TORSEN based.
4Motion is for all transversly mounted engines where quattro works with longitudinally(sp??) mounted engines. and since the Passat and A4 are the same chassis Passat uses quattro.(Also why TT uses haldex cuz it is on a Golf/Jetta chassis)

More specifically, from this link:
I quote,
<i>"The system offered in VW's European Golf 4Motion or the sassy little Audi TT Quattro, for example, employs electronic actuation and sends power to the rear wheels only when the front wheels begin to lose grip. Called a Haldex system, it's employed in front-drive cars with engines mounted transversely."</i>
Very much different.

Right. Its a Fwd and from what I gather it handles like one untill you begin to get on
the gas. When you're ON the gas you are driving a quattro. When OFF the gas it is a FWD. The key is how the engine is layed out.
In other words w/ tranv. and longit., the driving charactaristics change but they are both (TT transverse .. A4 longitude) still badged as Q's.

not according to the article; the Passat doesn't use a Haldex system
"The Passat, in contrast, has its engine mounted longitudinally, or fore and aft, and its all-wheel-drive system is built around a center differential that splits power equally between the front and rear wheels in normal operating conditions."
