What's a tip chip?

Stock tiptronic programming takes a while to shift gears, giving you a luxury car ride (where you barely notice gears changing). The tip chip alters the programming to give you 0.2 second shifts (fast). Gear changes are more abrupt, in that you KNOW when you've changed gears.

If this chip shifts smoothly in auto mode but more abruptly (faster) in tip mode then that is excellent. Where could I get one? Also, If I wanted to upgrade the ECU for additional hp, would this conflict with it?
Thanks,

Auto - Shift speed and smoothness very close to stock.
Tiptronic - Shift speed much quicker and abrupt.
Is this the way it behaves? How much would my gf notice it if she only drives it in auto mode?
