Default Wheel finish seems to be pitted after winter......

I was just cleaning my wheels today and I noticed that they seemed to be pitted from the all the salt on the roads in Chicago this winter. They feel rough to the touch and won't to come totally clean! Does anyone have any suggestions? I've never had this happen with alloy wheels!
Thanks!
Brad Bilut 98.5 A4 2.8 Qtip Stebro
The chrome tip on my Stebro system seems to be the same way!

Mine are very pitted as well, and I didn't even use my alloy wheels for most of the winter. I think it's the brake dust that is causing the pitting. I neither have ever had this happen to my alloys on past cars. My wife has also scrapped the curbs on a couple of the wheels. No major damage, but I don't like the scratches. I'm thinking about having all the wheels refinished and repaired.

Where & how much does it take to refinish/repair wheels? Thanks for any input.

Default Wheel Collision Center

First read about Wheel Collision Center (located in Bath, PA) in AutoWeek magazine. They had an M3 with 17" rims that got damaged due to pot holes. They shipped them off to Wheel Collision Center and they returned as good as new. They apparently have some sort of patented process which returns damaged wheels to as good as new condition...the wheel is structurally as good as new. They also do refinishing/chroming work.
I shipped them 2 15" OZ rims (from my old Corrado) which had damage due to pothole hits. They charged me $150 per wheel to straighten them out (I didn't need any refinishing work). The wheels looked like new. I highly recommend them.
Andy Hedin
'97 A4 1.8Tqms, Wett 1.0 Bar, E-codes...

Wheel Collision Center
