if the boot isn't torn. Do they usually tear when they fail? I'm assuming the answer is yes.
And also when I'm turning it makes the clunk clunk rolling noise, so I'm assuming that it is from my cv joints. Ill search on how to tell and inspect them some time this week.
Thanks guys

Yes they do.
When the boots tear, dirt and other crap causes the joint to fail.
A failed joint with a boot that's intact would be more likely to be a defective joint, or poor prior installation (like not enough grease, or never properly cleaned).

I think he's asking if a failed joint would subsequently tear a boot. The answer is...
...that a total failure of a joint would probably damage the boot. This would mean that the joint would fall apart and the car would not move. The pieces of the broken joint might be pushed out through the boot.
A more like scenerio, and the one you are probably experiencing is that the boot ripped and the car was driven with the bad boot. This allowed sand, water and dirt to wear the joint to the point where it now makes noise.

CV joints usually fail because of ripped boots not the other way around
When the boot rips it allows the grease to leak out and dirt to get in and the joint soon wears out and fails. This is why your warranty will only cover them if they fail when the boot is still intact. It is your duty to inspect the boots and replace them if they tear before damage is done to the joints. I check mine every oil change while I'm waiting for the pan to fully drain.
The way to check is to drive in a tight circle in an emply parking lot and listen for a popping sound from the front wheels. If you hear popping the CV joints are worn and need replacement. Do slow circles in either direction and apply some power while turning.

Thanks for the info. I checked the boots and everything looks fine ...
no rips, not leaking, nothing, but yet when i turn i hear a clunk clunk noise that is a continuous repetitive noise.
Anyone have any ideas?
