Default drivetrain loss is around 25%

like anything else around here, you'll find people that will argue a few percent higher or lower.

Default I'm one of them. I think it's closer to and likely over 30%

at stock advertised CHP numbers for a 150-175CHP vehicle weighing +/- 3300lbs. However it changes with increased HP/TQ. That is to say that for the most part DLL does not remain constant when mods add significant HP/TQ increases. What may be 33% at 150CHP may only be 28% (or pick any number that suits ya) at 250CHP.

My biggest gripe with DLL is people thinking it's linear and a one-size-fits-all and little could be further from the truth. If you put a 1,000HP engine in a car that had a 150HP engine in it you can betcher sweet *** it wont be anywhere near the same DLL percentage!! DLL is a formula compared against a specific engine, chassis & GVWR and not a stand-alone number for any/all engines/chassis. Best thing is to ignore touted CHP numbers and go by WHP alone. DLL converions don't even work on two identically prepared cars let alone different cars, engines, weights, wheel widths, tire compounds & diameters et al.

All gears are meshed at all times, so gear is irrelevant

Default That depends on what dyno you measure on

Drivetrain losses vary primarily as a function of how you measure them. Drivetrain losses are not a function of GVWR except that heavier cars often have beefier drivetrains.

Default in any apples-to-apples comparison a heavier car WILL have higher DLL

percentages even if the weight of beefier driveline components is precluded. If all other things are equal frictional and accompanying parasitic losses insure it.

Default If you measure at the hubs, it will be identical

Fat people in the car do NOT affect drivetrain losses.
