When i bought my chip (GIAC) i paid $50 dollars more...
for what i thought it was so that the dealer couldn't tell. is that true or did they just scam me out of money.

You did not get scammed. They sold you the socket for your stock chip..
As Siver Streakin' said, it's up to you to physically change out the chips every time you go to the dealer.
