when to replace Timing belt and water pump on an 01 1.8T?

service manual states. The water pump blades were made of plastic. I believe they have been updated to metal. I'm thinking more like 70-75K. I shouldn't say much though cause I did mine at 50K when the stage 3 went in.

Metal impeller water pumps are available through the aftermarket though.

There are plenty of plastic components throughout the cooling system. And the plastic impeller is likely lighter, which is easier on the shaft/bearing, which could mean it will last longer (provided both the metal and plastic WP's have the same shaft design, which may or may not be the case).
The point is, just because it's plastic doesn't mean it's junk.
