Think again. 10 gallons of 93 octane + 5 gallons of toluene = 15 gallons of 100 octane fuel
Toluene is 114 octane. Let's use the following math....
Toluene = $8/gallon
93 Octane Premium = $2.65/gallon
10 gals gas + 5 gals toluene = $66.50
Divide that by 15 and you get $4.43/gallon for 100 octane fuel.
If you can get toluene in a 55gal drum, it will likely cost closer to $2/gallon or maybe even a little less. But even at $3/gallon, it works out to about $2.75/gallon for 100 octane gas.
You don't want to go crazy with it though. Very high octane fuel can lead to longer starts (or possibly no starts) in very cold weather. It can also shorten the life of rubber/nylon/plastic parts in the fuel system.
Cheers,
