because you can take the book anywhere and get it dirty while working on the car.
It looks better anyways when you are scratching your head confused with your hood open looking into a book than staring at a laptop screen.

I'm gonna vote for CD
I realize the book offers portability advantages, but the CD is content searchable and the book does not have everything the CD has, including all wiring diagrams.
