Default If it's not.....

then go and ask Waseem... within 1 weekend + a trip to VT. 0-40 left the car screaming for oil.
Alex, and if Waseem is not an agressive driver... then I don't know what is.

Default What were the outside temps like?

Was he letting the car warmup gently before hammering on it?

Default comparing apples and oranges.

0 weight
5 weight

0w-30 is not as thin as 0w-40.

There is also a difference between driving agressively and driving agressive when you have an opening.

Default Outside temps were approximately 25-35º

This is at highway driving. No he gives his vehicle ample time to warm up.

This was all last year during the late winter IIRC.

Default Why don't you ask him.

besides running perfectly, where would oil vanish off to?

The turbo fairy?

If you drive it like you stole it... see how long 0-40 lasts.

That's all I'm saying. Now I understand that not everyone is like myself or others that I associate myself with. This is just something that is a little FYI for everyone and you all try and find an excuse. You can take what I type with a grain of salt until you see it for yourself.

Default Hehe, he is aggressive but I think he'd burn up 40W-100 oil too.

I tell you what, I had 15W-50 for the first year. I then switched to 10W-30 and it's been even better as far as oil temps go. I recently switched to 0W-30 and my car is running even better than last year and no lost oil.

Of course the fact that it's running better and faster may have something to with mods. ;-)

Either way, I am pretty much sold on 0W-30/40 oil. I'll switch back to 10W-30 come spring time. Why did Audi change their stance on oil weight as the years went by (lower weight)?

The internals couldn't have been changed that much to the point that the recommended weight changes...could it? There was also talk about the fact that these lighter oils were not readily available today as it was years ago.

Default To get better MPG numbers to meet government requirements, etc...

You'll see many manufacturers turn to lower grades, mostly in the US. Honda now recommends 5w-20 oil for most their new cars in the US. At the same time, these same engines in Japan and other parts of the world still call for Xw-30 or thicker oil. Go figure.

Also, when you go to Castrol's website in Europe, it'll recommend something like 10w-60 oil for the 1.8T A4. And Castrol actually makes pretty good ils for the Euro market. None of that Castrol Syntec crap that we get here in the US.

Default Well...

I ran 15w-50.. 10w-30.. 0w-30... and now I run 5w-30 M1.

So far the best performers in terms of oil loss is 10w 30 and 5w 30.

I can't wait till...... :X

Then I'll really see how oil keeps up.

As far as Audi is concerned I do not believe they ever changed their opinions on which oil to run. That is clearly up to the customer depending on regional location.
I believe that it deals with the quality of oil products which has since become more advanced than prior years.
