Default Whine Whine Whine....

I have read numerous post about first gear and high speed whine...I am convenced (probably a defense mechanism of denial) that my silver baby is healthy. However, the fact remains that she whines in first like crazy (not a bad sound just interesting....) and then after 50 or so she start to have a verly audiable whine in fourth and fifth....

Anyone had experiences like this...any fixes?

Oh...by the way its a 1996 model

Default Have you looked under the hood to determine where the whining is coming from?

There are a number of things attached to the engine drive belts: water pump, alternator, fan, power steering pump.... Either determine the cause yourself, or bring it to a mechanic to get it diagnosed. It's easier than waiting for it to fail entirely...at the absolute worst moment.

Default Only when driving

I can only hear the noise in first gear when accelerating....making checking under the hood a bit dangerous....

Default Have you tried asking someone to rev the engine while you're listening under the hood?

Make sure it's someone you trust! :-)
