Default whining noise coming from somewhere in the area near cylinder 4 runner of the intake manifold

It's somewhat intermidtent, but there about 90% of the time. I can hear it at idle inside the car. It builds up as RPMs rise and builds down as RPMs drop. It almost sounds like a SC whine and how it would sound with RPMs. Its not super loud, so if I get on it, the exhaust is much louder than the whine. Even when not on it, after 4000 RPM the exhaust is louder.

I listened to it a little with the hood up, but I really can't pin point it other than being towards the firewall, but not coming from the engine directly. Any ideas what to look at or test?

Flex joint is the most likely culprit.

Default exhaust? I don't think it's coming from down there

and the DP/flex joint is pretty new actually. But it's worth a look.

Default Well, there is a jungle of vac lines in that area. My other guess is the brake booster valve

that has a crap ton of lines hooked up to it has a crack. Beyond that, brittle plastic might need a look at by you.

Default You sure it's not from one of the pulleys driven by the acc belt?

Noise could be echo-ing off the firewall confusing things. If it's related to rpm, I would guess this is the issue.

hrrrrm, i also have a 'whinning' noise coming from what sounds like the passenger side rear of the engine..
sound continues briefly (5 seconds) when i shut the car off...
i KNOW i have an exhaust leak just above the flex joint, but i dont think that is the cause of the whinning sound...

any help would be appreciated

Default I'll have a closer listen tonight and try to get under the car to see what I can hear

problem is that the fac clultch is super loud right now and this might be easier to identify once I replace the fan clutch.

The load bearing is the front stator bearing its in the housing. How many miles on your alternator?
