Default White smoke on cold start up out exhaust that goes away but not completely when car gets warm?

Any idea what might be causeing this? Car runs great and I never would have noticed it. But, my parents noticed it this morning as I was driving away.

Default Hopefully just a head gasket leaking coolant into one of the combustion chambers . . .

but coolant could also get in with a cracked head.

Get that checked out fast, Bro.

I saw my mom's Mercedes doing that when she drove away from my place. Ended up that the head developed a crack--she bought a new engine.

My 96 A4 12v's head gasket just blew--(my bad, out-accelerating too many supposedly faster cars and motorcycles ;-P with my supposedly anemic untunable 12v).

I am doing a re-build and want to keep this car given its lightness and quickness (lighter than a Stock B5-1.8t at less than 3200 lbs, and nearly as quick as a stock B5-S4 at around 250 hp). It's a definite sleeper and a great canyon driver given its complete lack of turbo lag--normally aspirated. :-)

Default could be as simple as condensation in the exhaust (water in the gas) or as bad as your rings.

wouldnt think it would be yours rings since you have new ones (unless they were seated incorrectly) like JWG said maybe the head gasket, which one did you use and was it torqued correctly?

Default white smoke can be indicative of coolant being burned

Are you losing any coolant? Any coolant in the oil? And oil in the coolant?

Cheers,

Default Re: Hopefully just a head gasket leaking coolant into one of the combustion chambers . . .

Take a glass jar and cool it in the freezer. Put the jar over the tail pipe and the white "smoke" will condense. Put the jar back in the freezer for a couple of hours. If the condensate doesn't freeze, it has antifreeze in it (leaking head gasket). If it freezes it is pain water and is just condensation (nothing to worry about).
