Who has a painted carbon fiber hood?
I just installed a VIS CF hood to replace my smashed up stock hood. My original plan was to paint it and install aerocatch hood latch system. After driving around for a few days without hood pins I decided I really gotta get this done before I die (you guys who run without hood pins are nuts, this thing shakes like crazy im afraid to go 60!)
The body shop said they were surprised by the fit of the VIS hood being most aftermarket hoods fit like sh*t. They told me they could paint it but its a tough thing to paint because of the surface and it wouldn't look as good as painting an OEM hood. They told me because the hood is so light the surface bends alittle bit as you drive and youd have to worry about the paint cracking and the surface overall just kindof sucks to paint but can be done. Does anyone have any pics of CF hoods painted or horror stories before I do this?
I might be better off just going with an OEM hood painting it and calling it done. I only went for the CF hood because I got it for a nice price. If its painted it wont really benefit me that much. I have to say tho I like the CF look on lazer red much more than I thought I would although I still think its alittle too flashy on this color car (on volcano would be a different story)
So not really sure what im going to do just yet... maybe someone would wanna trade me for an OEM hood plus a few bucks... who knows.
Shot a few pics of the cars current state....

They should be able to do a fine sanding, paint it and
then clear the whole hood with some flex agent added to the clear. The flex should help keep it from cracking but I could only see it flexing enough to crack a normal paint job while it is in the up position.

not looking to head out west anytime soon hah..
I did drive through Colorado driving from CA to NJ tho. I remember staying in evergreen colorado by ***** Nelsons house (which the IRS tore down)? haha know where that is? And there was a wierd place with hot springs and a bunch of naked old men?
The best part of the trip was going down the windy mountains on rt 40 towards rt 78. Are you familiar with that area. Steamboat springs was also beautiful. I would love to snowmobile around that area.
