Default Who has a problem with heated seats burning thru leather?

Recently, I turned my seats on to a setting of 2. Apparantly there is a short of something, and a spot on the seat got really really hot. To the point where I could sit down. It actually burned a small hole in the leather. I heard someone else here on AW almost had their daughters jacket catch on fire due to this problem. IF anyone has had this problem and taking it up with AOA, please email me. I'm out of warrenty and a list of names to whom this has happened to would be helpful to convince AOA this is not a single incident. Thanks!

Default I think it happened to my car when the previous owner had it.

It is leatherette though, but when I looked at the car before I bought it there was a large hole in the driver's seat (the size of a half-dollar coin). The previous owner didn't smoke according the the dealer and I couldn't smell any cigarette odor. When I looked closer at the hole I notice the wires of the heated seat shorted out. But the dealer replaced it for me for free before I took delivery of the car so I thought I didn't have to worry. Recently though I have been getting really hot spots in certain areas of the seat even though I have the setting on 2 or 3 most of the time. Maybe I should start worrying again.

Oh and my car is a 99.5 1.8TQMS.

I've seen that on an '01 1.8 T with leatherette as well.

Default Just happened on my '98 1.8T leatherette

Kind of pissed. Seems like a huge safety hazard, burned a small hole right through the top of the seat. You would think the controls would be set in a "fail off" manner so that if there is a short in the system your seat doesn't turn into a cigarette lighter. Haven't brought it to the dealership yet but I'm currious to their response.

I have a 97 1.8T with Leatherette and just recently I have a hot spot and a small burn hole in the driver side seat on the right leg. AOA needs to know about this ASAP. Does anyone have a recommended fix?
