Who makes Audi shocks?

At 35K I probably should replace the shocks on my 98 Avant 2.8. I'm perfectly content with the stock ride and handling but I really don't want to pay Audi dealer price for shocks. Does anyone know if these are outsourced to Koni or Bilstein? What's a good (less expensive) aftermarket version of the OEM?

If you haven't noticed any negative symptoms like excessive rebounding or bottoming out, they are fine. Save your money.
If they are shot, then you could try getting the OEM shocks mail order from Clair Express or Blaufergnugen. They should be a bit cheaper than your local dealer.

until you get new ones. Then you wonder why you rode around in that buckboard for so long. Generally speaking I don't believe shocks are good for more than 40K. And my car did bottom out leaving a parking lot last week.
