Default Why does it seem like I am the only one with this part?

I asked yesterday if anyone knew what the little black box was on my valve cover, that has a wire going to the #4 coil... Well, I have already seen 12 different pics of different AWM's and NONE have this part... Also, the #4 cylinder has the coil connector and then another harness plugged into that, that goes to the coil pack and another brown wire out of that goes to the little black box... It is about 1/2"X1" and bolts to where the engine cover mount goes... Can I just remove this harness and that black box because it seems like everyone doesn't have it anyways, nor does it mention it in the Bentley or ETKA...

Default Take a picture of it.... Look for a PN on it. Audi had a good habit of stamping almost every

part with one on it.

Default There was no PN on top, might be on bottom, but I will try to get a pic... 034 coil covers are hard

to remove...

Default Okay here is a pic for the clueless...

But I want to remove #2 and plug #1 into the coil. #3 is the box and it is starting to pit away and the wire going to it is very corroded... It is only hanging on by 1 strand of the wire now...

Default Maybe later today, I will remove it and plug the harness to the coil. I will test the box to see

if it is some sort of resistor, amplifier or filter... My guess is a filter... But don't know what it would be filtering that others don't... I am glad to know I am not the ONLY one but as I said, if you see pics of other AWM's, they don't have it... Even on B6's or Passats...

Default If I'm thinking of the right part, I have it on my 30v. It's attached to one

of the bolts/studs holding the coilpacks on to the mani. But remember, the 30v doesn't have individual cp's.....it's more of a block of three. The bolts are obviously grounded.

Mid-G2 install pic.....

Default It's an RFI filter harness. Most 1.8t's don't have this harness, you can remove it.

My guess: used for better AM radio reception.
