Default Because "Pleather" is the way to go -- all the Pleasure of Leather, without the cost

Vinyl/manual seats are the way to go. I've had some of the best leather power seats, and much prefer the 1.8t's.

Less worry, more dependable, seem to go lower

-just my $.02

Default I don't miss my power seats at all...I love the lower seating position of the non-power seats

I sat too high in my old 2.8...the 1.8T is dead solid perfect in seating position.

I guess that's the upside of getting leather/power for 2002. Seat memory is an option.

Default Yup same here. I test drove a S4 the other day and I was trying to push the power seat button...

down to lower the seat.
It almost felt like riding an SUV :-)

Default Did it in my roadster for $500

It was almost impossible to find a Mk 2 non-black seat without Alcantara when I was searching for a low mileage 2011 roadster. So I bought one with the gray seats and I was sure I would have a hard time keeping the light gray alcantara surfaces clean. So I had the alcantara surfaces replaced with a contrasting light blue leather. I had the installer use a BMW leather (there I go with BMW colors again) for $500. Of course that was only 2 seats. I checked several shops and they were all within $100, so it was not some special low-ball deal. Note that I ran into some installers that would not touch the seats because of their airbags, even though I was not replacing the leather in that area.
