First honest, friendly and knowledgeable car sales person I ever met (no offence to you car sales people out there... just never met ya'll ;-)) just told me that the reason AOA won't bring the S3 to the US is as follows:
There is too much interest in it and Audi couldn't keep up with demand.
Could be speculation but makes weird paradoxical sense. Right?

i would have paid the same amount (if not a little more) for a S3 as i did for my A4, even though they are valued at less... so i don't think thats the ONLY reason... but a relatively good one if nothing else

Europeans would buy premium compact where here in US majority of people would not likely to buy something that expensive for such a small car.

Upscale hatches never sold well in this country, ask BMW about the 318 for details. I would also think it'd compete a bit too much with the 225hp TT and Golf GTi VR6.

You don't want to compete against yourself? Why not? You still get the $$ in the end regardless. In fact it gives the market the opertunity to dictate what should be built and sold. Same (IMHO) stupid reasoning keeps the only nice GM product, Opel, outside these United States.

Nothing wrong with some internal competition, granted. But if you have 5 different products with 5 different names and body's that are the same, what's the point? Its inefficient, there's lots of overhead, what it shows is lack of central leadership and control. What am I talking about? General Motors.
