why was there no glove box in: 95 vw gti and 95 mercedes e420?

My Mercedes has one mirror smaller as well..And no glove box.. (MY93-300e)

95 e420 has a smaller mirror too.

Default Just found this in an older thread: because European-made cars drive on narrow streets...
...so they don't want the passenger-side mirror to protrude?

Default Pretty sure that on the 95 VW's, the passenger side airbag was too large........
no room for a glovebox. They then further developed the airbag, making it smaller, allowing room for a glove box in the 96.

Not sure about the Mercedes, but I'll bet a nickel it's for the same reason.
