Forgive my ignorance, but why does whatever CHIP manufacturer ask you to send in your old ECU when you order a chip and a spare? If both ecu's are supposed to work in your car, why cna't you just pay the same rate and keep your ecu as the spare and get the chipped one sent to you? This would save chippers a lot of downtime wouldn't it?

I bought a spare ECU, with an APR chip, second hand from someone on the forum, but the chip needed to be upgraded. So I just sent APR the ECU that I bought. They never saw my original ECU. The upgraded chip + ECU works fine. So clearly they didn't need to have the ECU from my own car. Based on this, what you're saying makes sense to me...why not just chip the spare ECU you're buying and ship it out, and save FedEx charges as well as some time.
