why would oil service be flashing at 8700 for a 1.8t? seems like an odd interval...

...when i went in for my 5000 service / oil change, the indicator never flashed. i mentioned it to the dealer at that time and they said they would reset the interval so it would go off at 10,000 next (5K intervals).
did dealer just not reset properly? just want to make sure the service oil light doesn't forebode anything else.

If he inputed 5,000 then it would have been 5K Kilometers which is equivalent to 3K miles. If you had 5700 miles on your odometer at first service, then that is your answer.

My dealer said it was normal and reset it at my 10K service. Then again around 17K the service oil deal came up again. My dealer reset it at my 20K service two weeks ago.
I have the VWTool software now. I may try to set it to do 4800 mile intervals.

..and not mileage. If it hasn't gone off by a certain mileage it activates automaticly. Otherwise, it's really run by hours instead of miles. You must do a good portion of city driving!!!

...fyi - during the winter, i pretty much restrict my driving to city driving but even so, it's still close to 50/50 city/hgwy. since i got my 1.8t in september, my 5000 mile oil change was in feb - 5000 miles in 6 months. now that the summer wheels are on (cue the evil, sh*t eating grin), i'll routinely be doing road trips of up to 1500 miles monthly. in 2 months i've already gone nearly 4000 miles.
if it is time sensitive, i would think i would hit the mile interval first regardless.
yes? no? dah? nyet?
my new dealer is right around the corner. i'll stop in monday and have them reset it.

Again, he must input "Kilometers" not miles for the next reset. The Audi is made in Europe and they work off the metric system! If he screws up, and inputs miles, the indicator will come on early. I have seen this many times on other owners A4's. I have the VWTOOL software and can program the oil change mileage(kilometers), the time interval, and the service mileage/time intervals to anything I wish!
