requires removing the center console and rear calipers and rotors.
Is this true or is this typical AoA dealership bullsh*t?
btw: they want $140.00 to this, told wife to tell them not to do it, it's not that bad yet.
whatever happened to a simple cable adjustment?

but on my car you insert a screwdriver into the lever assy after removing the console. Then adjust the cables from under the car. Rear calipers do not requrie removal.. that much is BS.

either that, or your cables have stretched a LOT. my 98.5 has no slack at all in the parking brake handle, and I know no one has ever touched the cables. As the pads thin out, the piston ratchets out to keep tension on the pads. The lever arm that works the parking brake is spring loaded, it always returns to the same place. So, unless the cables have streched, or the lever arm on the caliper is hanging up internally, there should be no need to adjust the cables.

I'm guessing stretched cable, probably caused by my "bull in a china shop" approach to setting the parking brake when I use my wife's car, funny thing is, I'm a lot gentler on the parking brake with my S4.
As of now, the parking brake does its job, but I will put it on the list for the next time the car is in for service, just to be on the safe side.
btw: new pads were put on in January & calipers were fine at that time.
thanks for your input.

will not stay up at all, release button stuck in handle. Bringing car back to dealer to fix! :-(
Spoke to service manager on another matter, he told me not to worry about it, no charges will apply to fix the parking brake problem! :-)

Same thing happened to me after a heater core replacement. If you pull out the little plastic tab and take the leather cover off of the parking brake handle, you will see there's a little wire or rod under the chrome button. If that is not centered under the button but is deflected in some way your parking brake will not latch or click. Put it back where it should go and it should be fine. At least mine was.
