I'd figure that since the Avant and the sedan are based on the same platform they'll have the same engine choices. So the 2002 Avants should come with either a 1.8L Turbo or a 3.0L V6 just like the sedans. It wouldn't make any sense for Audi to build sedans with the 3.0L and still use the 2.8 only on the Avants. That would be an additional engine to support and from a manufacturing and warranty standpoint (more parts, different assembly procedures = more dollars) it wouldn't make sense to not transition the whole line to the 1.8T/3.0 engine choices.
