Will bad control arms cause "clicking" sound when turning hard?
It turns out my crunching/binding/clicking sound is caused by (2) bad upper control arms, so I have a few questions:
1. How many control arms are there on one side?
2. Will a bad control arm cause the "CLICKING" when I turn hard?
3. Is the control arm is DIY or are any special tools required?

Dont know about a 'clicking' but definitely a 'clunking'. Four on each side, 2 upper 2 lower. 1 Outer and 1 Inner Tie Rod End. No special tools needed to do the CA's. Are you going to replace just the upper or all of them?

I am going to replace just the upper PASS. side since the drivers side is fine and according to the AUDI tech, he says thats my problem since they are both bad. Both upper pass.side control arms, the front and rear upper ones, I am thinking of getting this kit which comes with the (2) upper pass.side and the (2) upper drivers side, not bad for the price:

It is fairly easy to do. Read through the write-up in the FAQ/Tech section. I dont know about ebay kits, not sure where they are made and the quality. I would go with two uppers from Joe @ Axis. Good price for good parts made in Germany iirc.

Clicking is caused by your CV Joint 99% of the time. How hard are you turning? I know that when the CV Joint boot breaks and the grease leaks out, then you get clicking even if you turn at 10-20mph. If you're turning faster than that then you might want to check the CV Joint as it might be starting to break. If the CV Joint boot is broken try to replace fairly quick, I waited too long and had to do all the CV joints as well as the rack and pinion. Control arms are fairly easy to do, the hardest part for me were the links and tie rods but if you have the right tools and a couple of extension bars you should be good. You would spray some WD-40 or EZBolt lubricant as it should help loosening some bolts. Good luck.

i specifically asked the tech about the CV joints and he insisted they were fine, i never do 10-20 on a hard turn, i am talking about pulling out of a parking space or a driveway, that speed when I turn the wheel hard so I can straighten the car out of the driveway, it will then click
