theorised that my cat is stocked up and is causing back pressure on my turbo, causing my bpv to release that pressure into the atmosphere

mmm, dont think so...sounds like a hose may be loose. there should be hoses on all 3 openings.

Default If your cat is bad

it will cause the turbo to not fully spool since the exhaust flow is slowing down at the blades. This will cause the turbo to produce lower boost levels and less power since it is not sucking in the correct amount of air.

Where is this air sound coming from?

Default U notice u were loosing boost slowly or all of a sudden like yesterday?

If the CAT is getting finish or sth, u'll notice decreasing in boost slowly. But it could be also all of a sudden finish and might be loose hoses. Check CAT and BPV/

Default Just throw in a race pipe in first and see if the cat is the issue.

BTW what boost level are you hitting now?

How many miles in your car? Get a test pipe and if u do need a CAT, put one after the flex joint.
