will somebody (who actually knows) please set me straight?
so i was at my local audi dealership in boulder to pick up some pinch bolts for my impending coilover install. the parts guy asked me what model, to which i replied 'b5 a4'. as he typed that in, he said ''06 a4'. i corrected him, saying 'bee five' again, and he looked at me as though i suddenly started speaking mandarin. i tried to explain that it was the b5 chassis, that model, like a passat, b5, b6, b7....etc....blank stare.....another guy came to the counter, and i asked him if he understand what a b5 a4 is, and he said no. i realize my only argument is that i read about b5 a4s on the internet, mostly at this site, so i just explain its a model year 2001 to speed things up. so, basically, it seems as though all of my little knowledge ive gained from this site over the past couple years may be counterfeit. wtf, was this just an idiot at the dealership i ran into?

nope you're right. most people have no clue about what they are doing
or what they should know. Many dealerships (at least around here) don't pay those guys **** so you can't expect much.

at my dealership...
The parts guys have so many cars and parts that it is pretty tough to keep track of them all. The dealer and parts department have to keep track of everything VW, Audi, Mercedes & Porsche.
All those guys know me and what car I drive now, but it was pretty frustrating at first going in there and trying to explain that I need this part from an '00-'01 S4, that part from an '02 A4 3.0, etc.
You have to remember that usually when someone is looking for parts they have the vin number and just punch it into the ETKA and go from there. No chassis code, no model year.
I certainly don't expect the guys at my dealership parts department to know every nut and bolt.

Usually only enthusiasts use the chassis code, some techs, but parts guys????
There really is no need to know that. They want the VIN. Also there really aren't too many models for Audi, not like BMW or Merc.
