We use those terms in my parts dept. I Can say "05 b7" or "98 C4 avant" and it will be understood by my manager. My co-worker might struggle with them but I beat them into him so he eventually gets it.
Try to remember that most of the customer calls I get start with "I have a 99 quattro" or the like. No model or engine, I have to ask for that info. Most people are not adept at use of audi terminology.
There are a lot of parts guys out there that A. dont care and B. dont know.
When one of my customers uses correct terminology I'm always a little bit shocked because its very atypical.
I have customers that cant (and some refuse to even look) tell me what tires they have on their audi, so I guess expecting any of them to know what "b5" means is unfair.

Guy had a 200 quattro 10VT and he knew about the internals of his 016 gearbox. When looking for a quote I printed the diagrams and said "you know more of this gearbox than I do, just let me know what you need" I'd expect that from a guy that has several hundred thousand miles worth of experience.
