wINTER TIRE SIZE?

I'll be replacing the OEM Eagle LS 205/60/15 tires on my 2001.5 A4 Quattro with Blizzazks for the winter. I get different suggestions as to what size they should be. The dealer and tire store say that staying with the 205/60s will be fine. I see posts here that recommend 195/65 for the best snow performance. I live in central NY and get over 200" of snow a year. What should I get? Will the dry road handling be that affected by going to the 195/65 or doesn't the size matter as much as the tire type? I know I'll be giving up alot with the snows but that is the cost of living where I do. Thanks all.

You shouldn't be driving that fast in icy weather anyway ;-D
Only on the warmer days will they feel squishy, when it is sub zero, they feel really good!

Whereabouts are you? Syracuse? Ithaca? I'm over in Rochester, so I sympathize about the snow.
Anyway, the narrower the tire the better seems to be the general consensus for the snow season. I have 4 195/65/15 tires sitting here waiting to be mounted. Yes, the narrower tire will make for poorer handling on the dry roads, but at the same time, you're running SNOWS! They're not meant to have great dry traction!
Honestly, I can't say for sure if you'd notice a difference in both dry and snow traction between the two different sizes, so I'd say just go for the ones that are cheaper.

I'm from CNY too (Syracuse) and also need to get snows for my 2002 1.8T QMS. Currently thinking about 15" or 16" Hakka Qs on steel wheels. Stock is 235/45/17s but I am gambling I don't have to go as wide as 215s, buuuuuuttttt?
